Tyler Huntley will start on Monday! Let’s discuss 👀

The NFL has trends to acknowledge. The day of the pocket passer certainly isn’t over as trends are cyclical. However, the current trend is the Dual threat QB. 💨

Tyler Huntley offers a dual threat at quarterback that we haven’t really seen in SoFlo under the McDaniel era. Huntley isn’t necessarily a dual threat that can do it all at an elite level. Still, I think it’s important to discuss why exactly we should be excited to see this guy on Monday night. 😊

To start, the Dolphins don’t have a good offensive line! Part of that is because we aren’t threatening the run near enough. Even the stats against 4 rushing defenders have been terrible. The Fins will get a boost here in not only threatening the qb run but forcing the defense to leverage the box (bring more personnel into the defensive front in order to stop the run). 💪

So what happens if Huntley forces more personnel into the box? Less personnel in coverage! More opportunity for our star wide receivers to become open! We haven’t been throwing the ball near enough and this might be the bandaid needed for some much needed healing. ❤️‍🩹

The range of success is wide. I see a potential for Huntley to be overwhelmed and unable to escape the pocket due to extreme defensive front play against a bad and now injured offensive line. I can also see a world where Huntley nullifies the effort of the defensive front and throws multiple easy big plays to wide open receivers! We just have to see. 👁️

The fact that Coach McDaniel stated that it was “extremely evident” that Huntley would be the starter after a week of practice, has me very optimistic! ‼️

I tend to be very optimistic and so this move excites me! Its possible that even if Tyler Huntley has mild success it changes the perspective of the coaching staff. They might come off of this stint decided that the new answer for the Dolphins is to target a true high upside dual threat quarterback. Which is the current trend and I don't know about you, I would love a Jayden Daniels/CJ Stroud type QB to watch every Sunday 🤷‍♂️
