Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is inching closer to his return from injury, offering a potential boost to the team at a critical juncture in the season. Beckham, who began the year on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, will be eligible to rejoin the roster starting next week.
According to head coach Mike McDaniel, there’s reason for optimism regarding Beckham’s progress. Speaking to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, McDaniel hinted at positive developments: “I’ve seen some good progress, and I’m optimistic for when his window opens up. We’ll see how his body responds, but I do know there’s been some very intentional good work and that he hasn’t had the setbacks that we’ve worked hard to avoid.”

However, the full picture remains unclear. Beckham, who hasn’t yet practiced with the Dolphins since signing with the team, has remained something of an enigma. Reports suggest that he underwent an offseason procedure, which the team was aware of when they brought him on board to form a dynamic receiving trio alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Initially, Beckham was reportedly not in favor of starting the season on the PUP list.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his return, the Dolphins have the option to open Beckham’s 21-day practice window next week. This would allow him to begin practicing with the team, a step toward full activation.
Given the current state of the Dolphins’ offense, Beckham’s return couldn’t come at a better time. The team has struggled offensively, exacerbated by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s recent injury. There are even discussions of possibly starting a former practice squad quarterback, as the Dolphins sit at 1-2.
While it’s uncertain how quickly Beckham will integrate into the offense—especially since he has yet to take any practice reps with the team—the 31-year-old veteran’s presence will undoubtedly help. With the Dolphins' bye week scheduled for Week 6, there is also a possibility the team might take a cautious approach and allow Beckham extra time to fully recover before making his highly anticipated debut.

Beckham’s return to the field will be closely watched, as Dolphins fans hope he can help reignite an offense that has struggled to find its rhythm early in the season. Whether his impact is immediate or gradual, any contributions from the seasoned wide receiver will be a welcome addition to Miami’s offense.
